Today ABC News reported that Missouri is number one in slacking at work. Governor Matt Blunt responded,
"Nobody can match the work ethic of Missourians. This survey, which our busiest citizens did not want to waste their time on, cannot undermine decades of experience. Missouri workers are among the most productive in the world."
According to Missouri's Governor, the poll, capturing more than 10,000 voluntary respondents, may well have been populated by people wasting time at work to complete such surveys. That's just funny.
Unfortunately, this isn't. Salary.com lists Hoosiers in a three-way tie for second in slacking at work - tied with Kentucky and Wisconsin. We must be reading The White Collar Slacker's Handbook. Yes, it really exists - full of time-wasting, boss-fooling tips.Salary.com reports that the top 2 excuses cited by those wasting time at work were:
- "Don't have enough work to do"
- "Underpaid for amount of work"
Regardless what else you or I think of the outcome of this survey, one thing seems clear: people long for significance in what they do, how they spend their time and energy.
In your church are staff and/or volunteers experiencing...
- high value placed on their time?
- personal fulfillment in the use of their time and talent?
- challenge of their mind and ability to make a difference?
- a sense of ownership and subsequent quality contribution?
If they aren't, I guarantee you - there's some time-wasting going on. And we leaders may be responsible.
Make it count. We can't afford to waste time and energy on the Kingdom.
